To the staff of Hangzhou Tongji Hospital:
It is heartfelt gratitude and appreciation I am writing this letter with.
A couple of months ago, I was diagnosed with the rare rheumatologic condition, Scleroderma, an illness that causes thickening of the skin. My limbs and face were already affected when I sought treatment in Singapore, where my rheumatologist prescribed me with a steroid (prednisolene) which would suppress the illness and delay its progress. My mum, unsatisfied with this medicinal method due to steroids’ detrimental side effects, attempted to source for other forms of treatment. That was when she came upon Hangzhou TongJi Hospital’s website, where she found out about this surgical mean of curing Scleroderma.
Now, 2 weeks after the operation, I am in an excellent shape, my condition showing apparent signs of improvement. The skin on my hands and face are softer, more elastic and looks way healthier. It has given me hope and I look forward to a complete recovery.
Here’s a huge thank you to Professor Huang, for your life-saving medical breakthrough, impeccable skills and professionalism. Thank you, for helping me conquer an illness that may otherwise haunt me for the rest of my life. Professor Huang has been really patient and understanding; he’s keen to answer any question and clarify any doubt. Anyone can tell the dedication, enthusiasm and assiduousness he shows towards his work. Moreover, Professor Huang truly cares for his patients, of which his care extends beyond that of their physical condition. He also puts me at ease with his reassuring words and humour. All in all, thanks for being such an awesome doctor! (:
There are a few more people to whom I would like to express gratefulness for making my stay in the hospital pleasant.
Doctor Qiang, for your undying energy and words of encouragement, thanks for livening up my day with your visits.
Doctor Wang, for your attentiveness, patience and dexterity; Doctor Tang, for your expertise in traditional Chinese medicine; Senior Staff Nurse Wu, for your painstaking care;
Loads of thanks to the nurses (Ms Lin etc) for looking after me 24/7;
And other staff who have helped me through in one way or another.
